  The Beginning

SELF

First of all, from our experiences and market data, our plan was to make it for online selling only because of covid outbreak. We see this as an opportunity to deliver coffee with the tastes that we like to customers in times when it is hard to go out and things are not as convenient. Along with the trend of Home Brewing that is getting stronger, people like to drip coffee at home or even go camping, and still bring coffee equipment with them which we see as an interesting lifestyle trend. We set a target that 90% of our customers will come from online marketplaces whether on various platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Shopee, or via our own website. The other 10% will come from wholesaling coffee beans to other coffee shops that really like our tastes.

So, we were thinking which name should go with this concept? Chosen from a variety of words, finally, it comes down to the word “Snick”, meaning a click sound. The clinking sound is like a click from a computer or mobile app when we order stuffs online. This sound is probably online merchants’ favorite when people order their stuffs online. So, we took this name, Snick Coffee, and it became the name we chose to use as our brand name.

We sat and talked that if we are going to find a mascot or logo, something that is our identity and speak for us as a new coffee brand to the market, what would that thing be? We have brainstormed about what could that character be. What is interesting enough and looks friendly at first sight? We like things that have a cute mood and tone and has its own character that is playful, interesting, and eye-catching. This is what we thought, we want people who see it to like it and be happy.

We started listing which character was never used in coffee industry. After some researching, we were surprised at how characters like bear, deer and chicken were widely used. Then we came across a few interesting ones like lemur and mallard duck. Then we tried to modify and draw until we got the character we wanted. We finally ended up with the mallard. Even though everyone sees it as a penguin, that’s alright because our art skill is not that professional. It is actually a cute little mallard that likes coffee. One of its wings holds a coffee cup. It is an empty cup of coffee that is always ready to be fulfilled with experience and willing to listen to customer feedbacks.
